Biphasic growth:

Biphasic growth is observed in species which are able to utilize two different carbon sources from the nutrient/ culture media. Biphasic growth has following properties:

  • Initial growth burst(first exponential phase): only one carbohydrate is utilized.
  • Stationary phase: first carbohydrate is exhausted. Initiation of second carbohydrate utilization.
  • Second exponential growth phase: utilization of second carbohydrate.
