Classification of mushroom

1. According to use:

A. Edible mushroom : Eg – Agaricus bisporous.

B. Medicinal mushroom : Eg- Lentinula edodes.

C. Poisonous mushroom: Eg- Amanita muscaria.

2. According to habitat/ecology:

A. Saprophyte : They grow on dead and decayed organic matter . Eg: White button mushroom, shitake, etc.

B. Parasite: They grow on living organism causing harm to host. Eg :Polypores/Bracket fungi

C. Mycorrhiza : Lives in close association with host plant. Eg: Perigold black tuffle, matsutake mushroom (Tricholoma matsutake).
