Classification of bioagent

The bioagents can be classified as;

  1. Obligate bioagents:
  • Associated with a specific insect or disease host and are difficult to culture artificially.
  • Eg; Bacillus popilliae causing milky disease of white grubs.
  1. Spore forming bioagents:
  • The protein crystals formed by these sporulating inoculants are toxic to target pests.
  • Eg; Bacillus cereus produce such toxins.
  1. Determinative bioagents:
  • They get activated inside host and multiply in haemocoele of insect producing lethal septicemia.
  1. Facultative bioagents:
  • The host tissue is damaged by the invasion of the bioagents but they are not obligate parasites.
