Classification of bioagent
The bioagents can be classified as;
- Obligate bioagents:
- Associated with a specific insect or disease host and are difficult to culture artificially.
- Eg; Bacillus popilliae causing milky disease of white grubs.
- Spore forming bioagents:
- The protein crystals formed by these sporulating inoculants are toxic to target pests.
- Eg; Bacillus cereus produce such toxins.
- Determinative bioagents:
- They get activated inside host and multiply in haemocoele of insect producing lethal septicemia.
- Facultative bioagents:
- The host tissue is damaged by the invasion of the bioagents but they are not obligate parasites.
