Advantages and disadvantages of biological control method

Advantage

• They are host specific, thus no effect on non-target organism.
• They are safe to humans, animals and environment
• There is no problem of phytotoxicity or resistance
• Once they get established, they continue to perpetuate themselves and maintain equilibrium for many years.
• Even those initial expenses are high, it is economical in long run.

Disadvantage

• Highly trained and technical persons are required for searching, rearing of parasites and their release
• It is very expensive to explore, export, multiply and establish in new area.
• Unpredictable change in climatic condition may impair the efficacy of pathogens and natural enemies.
