Chemosterilants

  • Any chemical that can inhibit the growth of gonads or interfere with the reproductive capital of an insect such as prevent copulation and production of viable eggs, induce dominate lethal mutations, and inhibit development of progeny at any stage is called chemosterilant.
  • The common chemo sterilizing substances are:

 

  • Alkylating agents:Apholate, Aphomide, and Aphoxide (TEPA) these compound probably act as inhibitors in nucleic acid synthesis, gonad development, causing mutagenic effects.
  • Atimetabolites:Purina, Pyramiding and toil acid compound; they are regarded as antagonistic structural and log use of the natural metabolites interfering with the synthesis of nucleic acid or by direct incorporation in to the nucleic acid.
  • Miscellaneous compounds:HEMPA, METEAP, Monoorolacin and Colchicine
