History of IPM

  • 1939: Insecticide properties of DDT was identified by Paul Muller
  • 1948: Novel prize provide to Muller
  • 1962: “Silent Spring” by Rachel Suits. She describes in her book about negative impact of chemical pesticide on organism and environment.
  • 1960’s : First time used term IPM
  • 1972-80: FAO develop IPM program as National IPM program in Indonesia

 

Different phase of IPM

  1. Subsistence Phase: Traditional agriculture, no chemical pesticide.
  2. Exploitation Phase: More use of resource, green revolution era, high input for maximum production.
  3. Crisis Phase: Pest outbreak, pest resistance develops.
  4. IPM Phase: Minimum pesticide use, priority to non-chemical method for pest control.
  5. Organic Phase: No use of chemical, priority to nature.
