- Genetic factors (decline due to genetic drift, varietal characteristics alter due to G x E, chromosomal aberrations, mutations)
- Ecological factors (environment prevailing during seed formation, maturation including soil, light, temperature, wind, rain and pest and pathogen)
- Agronomic package and production technology (seed source, isolation, rouging, weed mgmt., nutrient and water mgmt., plant protection)
- Harvesting and post-harvest handling (threshing, processing, treatment, storage)
