Compost

  • Compost is the rotted organic manure from the waste. Or, Compost is the product of organic residue, or mixture of organic residue and soil that have been piled, moistened and allowed to undergo biological decomposition.
  • Thus, the compost making is a biological process in which organic wastes of almost all kinds
  • are reduced and converted into humus by the activity of micro-organisms.
  • This breakdown of organic materials by microbes needs a warm, moist and aerated environment. a variety of materials such as straws, husks, leaves, sugarcane – trash, bagasse, agricultural as well as industrial wastes, street-refuge, night soil, slaughter-house wastes, sewage and sullage sludge are used to prepare compost.
