Climate
- Winter crop from Terai to Mid Hill and summer crop for High Hill,
- Can tolerate frost and snow, under cooler condition, quality of leaf become better,
- Under warmer conditions, it bolts and leaf quality poor.
- It is a cool season crop, so before flowering, it requires cool climate.
- At the time of flowering and seed maturation, it requires warm and hot climate.
Soil
- It can be grown in almost all types of soils but loam soil with high organic matter content and better water holding capacity is preferred.
- Loamy soil with sufficient humus and high water holding capacity is best for the crop.
- Optimum pH range for better growth and development should be 6-7.
