Climate

  • Carrot is predominantly a cool season crop though some of the tropical types tolerate high temperature.
  • An average temperature of 18 – 20 o C is considered as optimum for root development of both Asian and European types.
  • Under high temperature the color of the root above the ground become green and underground part become white which indicate lack of carotene pigment development.
  • 18-20 o C for root development, lack of carotene pigment at high temp, green root above ground,

 

Soil

  • Light, friable, rich in humus, well drained, sandy loam to clay loam
  • Soil pH = 6.5-7.0
