Field preparation

Field should be prepared by 2 – 3 ploughing followed by 1 – 2 harrowing, then leveling is done.

  • FYM is applied during last ploughing.
  • When grown in small plots for leaves, the soil should be well prepared and leveled.

 

a. Manure and Fertilizer

  • FYM @ 10 – 20 ton/hac, 60: 30: 20 Kg NPK/hac.
  • In irrigated coriander, 40kg N/hac should be applied in two split dose of 30 days and 75 days after sowing

 

b. Sowing Time

  • Plains: Oct. – Dec.
  • Hills: March – April.

 

c. Seed Rate and Spacing

  • Seed rate:-15 – 20 Kg/hac.
  • Spacing: 20 – 25 cm X 5 – 10 cm.
  • Before sowing the seeds are rubbed generally with hand into two halves.

 

d. Seed Sowing

  • Overnight soaking of seeds before sowing is beneficial for germination.

 

e. Irrigation

  • Coriander cannot withstand water logging condition, therefore proper drainage should be
  • Crop is irrigated at 10 – 12 days intervals.
  • Immediately after sowing, the beds are likely watered.
  • Soil should be kept moist till the seed germinates.

 

f. Interculture

  • Thinning, first weeding and hoeing should be done 30 days after sowing as the initial growth of coriander is slow.
  • Other hoeing and weeding is done according to need.
