Harvesting
- For vegetable purpose, fenugreek can become ready for harvest in 25-35 days after sowing, when 3-4 leaves.
- The plants are cut 2-3cm above the ground with a sharp knife or sickle, leaving the stubs to produce new shoots for further cuttings.
- The cut or nipped parts are tied up to bundles for marketing, in which case, they should be kept cool and moist.
- First cut is to be given at 20-25 days after sowing.
- Later the crop is cut at 12-15 day interval.
- Afterwards 4-5 cuttings are taken.
- Then the plant is uprooted at flowering and disposed.
- For a grain crop, 1-2 cuttings are allowed.
- The plant flower in 30-40 days after sowing.
- Pods mature within 60-90 days after sowing
Grading
- Fenugreek seeds are stored in gunny bags lined with polythene paper with an initial moisture level of 7-8% for more than a year
