- Green Onions are ready for harvesting 2 months after transplanting by pulling out by hand when there is a little bulb formation and good, tender vegetative growth.
b) Ripe bulb/Mature bulb: turn yellow, lodge or neck falls when mature bulb.
- The bulb crop is ready for harvest in 3-5 months after transplanting.
- Maturity is indicated by the tops falling (neck fall), while the leaves are still green.
- Harvesting starts when 70% of top falls. Sometime to enhance the maturity of Onion, crushing of top (topping) is done.
- Leaves removed by cutting upper part at the point of lodging, avoid injury during harvesting.
- The plants are hand pulled or dug out by khurpi or spade.
- The tops at the neck and roots at the base are cut off before curing.
