Insects and pests:-
a) Aphids
- Aphids are the more serious pests of root crops. Damage and control measures are similar as mentioned in cauliflower.
b) Mustard saw fly
- This is the most common pest in raddish and turnip.
- It attacks when the crop are in vegetative and flowering stage.
- This damage is done by the larvae by bitting in the leaves and pods.
Control measures:-
- Hand picking and destruction of larvae.
- Spray malathion @ 1ml/lit of water.
c) Flea beetle
- Adults eat the vegetative part of the plant causing small holes.
Control measures:
- Spray malathion @ 10-15 days interval.
- Spray quinalphos (0.05%).
