Maintenance of Parental line

• Maintenance of parental line of potato is research oriented work.
• Tissue culture lab is required to maintain disease free parental line in laboratory.
• Male and Female line are multiplied through tissue culture in tissue culture lab
• Pre basic seed of potato tuber are produced through tissue culture technique
• Basic-1 potato tuber are produced from pre basic seed of potato tuber
• Basic-1 potato tuber seed are used to produce hybrid TPS

Crossing Block

• Crossing block is the land/field where female and male line are planted
• Male : Female ratio is maintained as 1:4 ratio
• To produce fertile pollen, half male line are planted one week before of planting of female line and remaining half male line are planted after one week of planting of female line which provide sufficient pollen for pollination, crossing, fertilization
• Male line and female line are planted in separate rows in crossing block.
