Manure and Fertilizer Application

  • 40% of nitrogen and full amount of FYM/Compost, P2O5 and K2O should be applied as basal dose at time of transplanting and out of remaining 60% nitrogen is applied at three splits ,
  • first split of 20% of N2 is side dressed after 25-30 DAT,
  • second 20% splits of N2 is applied after 45-50 DAT,
  • and remaining 3rd splits of 20% of N2 is side dressed at 70-80 DAT (Days after Transplanting)

Interculture

  • Weeding and hoeing should be practiced regularly.
  • In general, 3-4 weeding and hoeing is done.
  • Irrigation is done immediately after fertilizer application as side dressing

Irrigation

  • Seedlings should be transplanted in the afternoon and should be immediately irrigated.
  • Enough moisture should be present in soil during crop growth stage.
  • Irrigation is done immediately after fertilizer application as side dressing.

Harvesting and Yield

  • Leaves become ready to harvest at about 25 – 30 days after transplanting.
  • Leaves should be harvested without damaging the plant and should be cut with the help of a knife at the base of the sheath.
  • Tender leaves should be harvested regularly to get a higher yield.
  • Delayed harvesting of over matured leaves causes lower yield.
  • Yields: Depending upon the variety, the yield varies from 30 – 40 ton/ha.
