Manure and Fertilizer Application
- Half amount of nitrogen and full amount of FYM/Compost, P2O5 and K2O should be applied as basal dose at time of transplanting and out of remaining two splits of nitrogen is applied, first half splits of N2, is side dressed after one months of transplanting and remaining half splits of N2 is side dressed at head formation stage,
- Light soil with low OM and heavy rain have shown micro nutrient deficiency, especially boron zinc, manganese which cause tremendous reduction in yield.
- It is advisable to apply 10-15 kg Borax per hectare as basal dose application.
Interculture
- 2 weeding, 2 earthing up is done.
- One earthing up after one month of transplanting and another at just before formation of head
- 2 hand weeding give better yield.
- Basalin @ 0.5 litres per hectare prior to transplanting the crop. The solution is sprayed on the soil and mixed into the soil surface. Later on crop is transplanted.
Irrigation
- Seedlings should be transplanted in the afternoon and should be immediately irrigated.
- Moisture during both growth and head formation phase should be adequate for normal growth and proper development of head.
- Enough moisture should be present in soil during head formation stage.
- Irrigation at 10-15 days interval is sufficient for broccoli production.
