Post- harvesting handling:-

Properly blanched fresh produce is sent to market immediately after harvest. It should be properly packed in suitable packing. It can be stored in trenches or cold storage at 10°c at 95 – 98% RH for two to three months.

The harvested seed crop is properly dried and threshed. The cleaning and grading of seed can be done manually or by machine.

 

Seed production:-

It is an annual crop in plains and transplanted in December – January to produce seeds. A dry weather during maturity and post harvest stage is ideal for seed crop of celery. Celery seeds is produced in temperate hilly regions. It requires chilling temperature 4.4 – 10°c as short as 2 days to induce bolting.

There is a problem of seed shattering in celery. Spraying of polyvinyl acetate (PVA) glue on seed head prevent shattering and increased seed yield.
