Rouging :

  • Selection and Rouging is done on the basis of foliage characteristics and on the basis of ancestral
  • Only true to type plants are permitted for flowering which are of qualitatively potential.
  • Less qualitative plant like disease plant, damaged plants, insect attack plant, unhealthy plants, etc. are rouged before flowering.
  • Isolation distant : For foundation seed production = 1600 m and For certified seed = 1000 m

 

Field Inspection and Rouging :

Minimum no. of field inspection on Rayo is 3.

  1. Before full grown /marketable stage.
  2. Bolting/Flowering stage
  3. Seed Maturation stage

 

Seed Harvesting :

  • Harvesting of plant is done before complete drying of plant when the pod become yellow.
  • Seed stalk are cut and kept in heap in dry shade place for 3-4 days.
  • Threshing is done either by manual or beating with stick or mechanical method or by any other means.
  • After threshing, winnowing is done, the small and unwanted seeds removed.
  • The winnowed seed should be sun dried 3-4 times.
  • Grading of seed is done. Seeds are stored in air tight container, store seeds in cool and dry place
  • The moisture percentage should be 6-8 % .
  • Seed Yield: Average seed yield of BLM is 30-35 Kg per ropani however it depends of variety and growing condition.
