Seed production

• Often cross pollination crops
• Isolation distance- 400m (Foundation seed) and 200m (Certified seed)
• Roguing and field inspection
• Regular inspection at least thrice is required during growth period
• First- Before flowering on the basis of growth characters- Remove off type plant
• Second- at the time of flowering on the basis of flower character.
• Third- at the time of fruit ripening on the basis of fruit character
• The plants affected by viruses and other diseases should be removed regularly

Method of seed extraction/preparation

• Harvest complete ripened fruits
• Dry properly for 15-20 days in sunlight or 2-3 days in drier at 55°C
• Seeds can be extracted from dried chilly
