Seedling raising

Raising of Seedlings in the Nursery:-

• Seedlings are raised in the nursery beds for all the Cole crops. In Nepal, three situations exist while raising seedlings of Cauliflower in the nursery:-
• The conditions for Cauliflower grown in the high hills such as Daman, Tistung and Palung during summer months (May – June) are not very optimum since the period has high temperature low humidity with dry winds. Under such situations the beds should be cooled by providing proper moisture in the beds and by covering (thatched roof) them during the hotter period of the day.
• The condition for Cauliflower sown in rainy season in the mid hills and plains are also not favorable since the period has high temp., high rainfall and cloudy days.
• During this period (July – Aug.), the beds required full protection from over moist condition of seed beds and also require more light. Under such condition poly tunnels with good ventilation may be ideal for raising seedlings.
• The condition for late crop in mid hill and plains are suitable for raising seedling in the beds, since the period has opt. temperature, opt. moisture and better sunshine.
