Varieties

A. Asian type: –

• 29, Pusa Meghali, Pusa Kesar, Selection-233, Selection-21 etc.
• Pusa Kesar is a cross of Asian (Local Red) and European (Half-Long Nantes) variety. This variety has both qualities of both Asian and European types such as high carotene content, tolerant to high temperature and ability of producing seeds in the hills.

B. European type: –

On the basis of root, European Carrot can be classified into two groups;

• Nantes type: – Slender root with stumpy end. Example- Nantes Forto (only this variety is popular in Nepal), Pusa Yamdagni, Half Long Nantes, Coreless etc.
• Chantany type: – Wedge shaped root with tapering end. Example:- Danveer, Imperator, Streamlines, Royal Chantany, Red Chantany etc.
