Varieties

There are no recognized varieties of coriander in Nepal, but according to seed type they can be classified into 2 groups:-

1. Small seed type coriander.
2. Bold seed type coriander.

• Small seed type coriander is more aromatic and it fetches a better price in the market. Locally it is called as “Dhane” or “Desi” coriander. Bold seed types are locally called as “Katu” or “Kalmi” coriander.

IARI has developed a number of improved varieties like:-

• RCr-20:- moderately tolerant to powdery mildew, also tolerant to stem gall disease.
• RCr-41:- moderately tolerant to powdery mildew.
• GC-1:- moderately tolerant to wilt and powdery mildew
• GC-2:- moderately tolerant to wilt and powdery mildew
• Sindhu: – moderately tolerant to wilt and powdery mildew, resistant to aphid.
• CS 287:- tolerant to wilt and grain mould disease.
