  • Family ‘cryptosporidae’ represents a single genus ‘cryptosporidium’. They occur in gastrointestinal/ respiratory epithelium without formation of tissue cyst in wide range of animals.
  • At current, four species of cryptosporidium are recognized, two for each vertebrate which includes ; Cryptosporidium muris and parvum and C. meleagridis and C. baileyi in birds.
  • Species differentiation is determined largely by molecular genotyping and sub-typing.
