History of greenhouse technology in Nepal

  • Glasshouse constructed in National Botanical garden, Godavari in 1960s
  • Glasshouse constructed in The Standard Nursery, Bansbari in 1970s
  • Glasshouse constructed in Central Horticulture farm, Kirtipur mid 1980s
  • Hitech greenhouse constructed under National Potato development program in Khumaltar in late 1980s
  • Hitech greenhouse constructed by Dabur Nepal in Banepa in mid 1990s
  • In vegetable farming, tunnel poly houses for seedling raising began during 1980s and is also practiced today.
  • In floriculture, tunnel house with plastic cover was used since early 1990s for holding ornamental plants.
  • Use of tunnel house for cut flower production began only in mid 1990s and began growing rapidly.
  • Semi- hitech to hi tech greenhouse began coming up since 2012
