Sources of Nutrients in Soilless Culture

  • Soilless culture involves growing plants without soil, using nutrient solutions supplied through water or inert media.
  • Since soil is absent, all essential nutrients must be provided externally in a balanced and available form.
  • Nutrients are supplied from chemical fertilizers, organic sources, or specialized nutrient formulations.

Classification of Nutrients

  • Macronutrients: Required in large amounts (N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S).
  • Micronutrients: Required in small amounts (Fe, Mn, Zn, Cu, B, Mo, Cl, Ni).
  • Supplied through soluble salts, chelates, or organic compounds.
