Rice leaf folder (Cnaphalocrocis medinalis, Pyralidae, Lepiodeptera )

  • Sporadic pest , golden or yellowish brown in color, wings have 2-3 wavy line characterized by dark band .

Damaged symptom: –

  • fold the leaves and scrapes the leaves inside the
  • longitudinal and transparent whitish streaks on damaged leaves
  • tubular folded leaves
  • leaf tips sometimes fastened to the basal part of leaf
  • heavily infested fields appear scorched with many folded

 

Identification

  • Egg :– white egg on leaf and leaf sheath
  • Larvae: after hatching feed tender leaf and later stage larvae fasten the longitudinal margin leaf together.
  • Pupa :- +nt between the leaf
  • Adult :- wings have 2-3wavy lines

 

Life cycle

Egg–5-6 days –> larvae –18-20 days—> Pupa –5-7 days –> Adult

 

Management

  • Use resistant
  • Contact your local agriculture office for an up-to-date list of available varieties.
  • Follow rice with a different crop, or fallow
  • Avoid
  • Flood and plow field after harvesting if
  • Remove grassy weeds from fields and
  • Reduce density of
  • Use balanced fertilizer
