Rice gundi bug / rice ear head bug (leptocorisa oratorius,Coreidae ,Hemiptera)
- Piercing and sucking ,they are more active in morning and night time.
Damaging stage :- Nymph and adult
Damaging symptoms : Black spots on the grains at the site of feeding puncture. In the case of heavy infestation, the whole ear head may become devoid of mature grains. Buggy odour in rice field during milky stage.
Identification
- Egg :– laid in leaves in straight rows dark brown red in color
- Nymph :- slender, wingless and brown green color
- Adult :- slender, green/brown in color ,long and antenne .
Life cycle :-
Egg—5-8 days–> Nymph —10-15 days–> Adult
Management
- Light trap, hanging dirty trap(cattle urine soaked gunny bag or cow dung wrapped cloth)
- Predator : tiger beetle ,spider
- Beauveria bassiana as a biological
