Pink borer (Sesamia inferens , Noctuidae , Lepidipteran)

- Out of them wheat is the major host
Damaging stage :- larvae
Damaging symptoms:- dead heart at vegetative stage and white head at reproductive stage.
Identification
- Egg :- creamy white ,spherical egg
- Larvae :- pinkish brown with pink head
- Pupa :- brown in color , pupation occur in stem of plant
- Adult :- straw color forewing with dark brown longitudinal streak and hind wings are white in color.
Management
- Trichogramma chilonsis (egg parasitoid)
- Bacillus thuringenesis (dipel, biolep)@3g/l at evening hr .
- Napier grass/elephant grass as a catch crop
- Sudan grass –trap crop
- Sliver lea (desmodium uncinatum)-commercial legumes when intercropped with maize, repel ovipositing stem borer.
