White grub (Phylophaga rugosa ,Scrabaediae ,Coleptera)

  • Polyphagus pest , found in all agroecological zone .
  • It’s a root damaging insect .
  • Larvae of chaffer beetle .
  • Maize and potato is major host which damage by this insct .

Identification

  • Egg : laying undecomposed manure ,moist with high oranic manure .
  • Larvae : brownish head with 3 pair leg ,C – shaped body
  • Pupa :- occur in soil
  • Adult :– light to dark brown in color ,smooth and shiny beetle with different color.

 

Management

  • Collect and destroy
  • Used only well decomposed manure .
  • Light trap
  • Collect and destroy host tree( neem and bakaino ) after
  • Use fungal pathogen like beauveria bessiana (white muscardian fungus ) metarhizium anisopilae .
  • Dursban 10% G (chloropyrifos )@20-25kg /ha in soil before sowing the crop in white grub endemic field .
