White grub (Phylophaga rugosa ,Scrabaediae ,Coleptera)
- Polyphagus pest , found in all agroecological zone .
- It’s a root damaging insect .
- Larvae of chaffer beetle .
- Maize and potato is major host which damage by this insct .
Damaging stage : larvae and adult
Damaging symptoms : cut root below ground and just above the soil.
Identification
- Egg : laying undecomposed manure ,moist with high oranic manure .
- Larvae : brownish head with 3 pair leg ,C – shaped body
- Pupa :- occur in soil
- Adult :– light to dark brown in color ,smooth and shiny beetle with different color.
Management
- Collect and destroy
- Used only well decomposed manure .
- Light trap
- Collect and destroy host tree( neem and bakaino ) after
- Use fungal pathogen like beauveria bessiana (white muscardian fungus ) metarhizium anisopilae .
- Dursban 10% G (chloropyrifos )@20-25kg /ha in soil before sowing the crop in white grub endemic field .
