Cucurbit sting bug (Coridus janus, Aspongopu janus, Pentatomidae, Hemiptera)
Damaging stage : nymph and adult
Damaging symptom: suck sap from the leaves and tender shoot.
Identification
- Egg: underside of leaves, bronze to brick red in color.
- Nymph: white to green color with black leg.
- Adult: red and pale brown bug, edge of the abdomen and underside of insect orange to brown stripes.
Life cycle:
Egg–3-6 days–> Nymph –4 weeks–> Adult
Management
- Hand picking
- Predator: tachinid fly, trichopoda pennipes that attack older nymph and adult.
- Botanical pesticide: neem, bakaino, asuro etc
- Spray malathion 50% EC @ 5ml/liter water.
