Mango hopper (Idioscopus niveosparsus , Cicadellidae , Homoptera)

Damaging stage :- Nymph and Adult

Damaging symptom :- Sap sucking withering and shedding of inflorescence ,Honey dew.

 

Identification:-

  • Egg:– Laying inside inflorescence and other succulent parts of plants and also laying in soil.
  • Nymph:– Dull yellow or pale yellow color ,wingless .
  • Adult:– Grayish with brown spot on head ,wings ,female has ovipositors.

 

Life cycle :-

Egg–4-10 days–> Nymph –10-15 days–> Adult

Shade and high humidity condition are favorable condition for their multiplication.

 

Management :-

  • Predator :- Spider ,Lady bird beetle ,lace wing larvae.
  • Parasitoid :- Chalcid wasp
  • Fungal pathogen :- Metarihizium
  • Light trap
  • Banding (5 cm wide greasy band around trune of mango free before hatching of egg of hopper in soil) prevent upward movement of nymph.
  • Metasystox EC@ 10ml/Lit water .
