Mango stone weevil (Sternochetus mangiferae, curculionidae ,coleoptera)

Damaging stage :- grub

Damaging symptom:-

  • Feed pulp and stone (seed coat) and later damaged cotyledon
  • No external symptoms

 

Identification :-

  • Egg:– Laying egg at the fruit skin making small cut on fruit surface ( marble size )
  • Grub:– Bore into embryo of mango ,stone ,legless with brown head and white body , C- shaped .
  • Pupa :- inside stone .
  • Adult :– Short ,stoutly build , dark brown weevil .

Life cycle :-

Egg–5-7 days–> grub —4-5 weeks—> Pupa –7 days–> Adult

 

Management:-

  • Collect and destroy all fallen fruit and neevil damaged mark
  • Acephate 75 SP @1.5 g/l .when fruit are marble size .
  • Decamethrin 8 @ 1ml/l
