Mango shoot gall maker (Apsylla cistellata ,Psyllidae, Homoptera)

Damaging stage :- Nymph

Bio-ecological studies of shoot gall psylla, Apsylla cistellata Buckton on  mango under Tarai region of Northern India | International Journal of  Tropical Insect Science

Damaging symptom:-cone shaped gall present axillary and apical bud.

 

Identification :-

  • Egg:- White, on either side of midribs of single leaf .
  • Nymph:- flat and pale yellow color , present inside gall , if absence of young bud . Newly emerged nymph donot survive . 6 nymphal instar .
  • Adult :- Black head ,thorax and light brown abdomen, ash color wing.

 

Management:-

  • Remove egg mass from leaves , purn and defoliate new growth
  • Mostly insecticideare ineffective due to nymph present inside gall
  • 2-3% tar oil (Produced from coal ,wood ,petroleum or peat ) 4 times at 10 days interval during egg laying period
  • Spray of metasystox 04% thrice during hatching of egg
  • Mango tree sprayed with Dimethoate 0.03%result lesser number of gall
  • used resistant varieties Alphanso, Himsagar, etc.
