Banana scaring beetle (Nodostoma viridipeinnis , Chrysomelidae, Coleoptera)

    • Highly during rainy season .

Damaging stage :- Adult (mostly aerial) , larva (root)

Species composition and diagnoses of leaf- and fruit-scarring beetles  (Coleoptera, Chrysomelidae) infesting bananas and plantains (Zingiberales,  Musaceae) in the Indian subcontinent

Variety of Life: Nodostoma

 

Damaging symptoms:- Adult attack aerial parts and larva attack root and soft epidermal cell.

 

Identification :-

  • Egg:- Pale lemon and yellow egg in soil.
  • Larva :– Yellow ,reddish brown head , inside soil.
  • Pupa :- Inside soil .
  • Adult :- red head and black elytra ,Overwintering.

 

Life cycle :-

Egg —7-9 days–> Grub –20-22 days–> Pupa –7-20 days–> Adult

 

Management :-

  • Deep ploughing of infested field .
  • Wrapping of fruit.
  • Used chemical before 9 AM .
  • Carbonyl WP (0.1%) , Thiodane 35% 1ml/lit
  • Spray sumicidin 20% 5 ml/lit
