San Jose Scale (Diaspidiotus perniciosus, Diaspididae)

Damaging stage: Nymph and Adult

Damaging symptoms:

  • Plant growth is checked, in severe infestation plant
  • Yellow spot appear in the leaf, twigs and
  • Fruit remains small, immature, discolored, cracked.

Identification

  • Male scale is elongate, lighter amber color, a long projection from the base of abdomen and smaller than females.
  • The male has wings and long antannnae.
  • Females are round or oval, grayish, wingless and legless and its yellow body is soft and gobular.
  • Nymphs are minute, yellow in color.

 

Management:

  • Spraying Dormant oil, mineral oil ( servo oil)
  • Root dipping
  • Trenchdiggingandincorporate–disiton/temikand irrigate
  • parasitoid, Encarsiapernicoisi
  • Buprofezin
  • Rogar
  • Pyripoxyfen
