Ipil-Ipil           Leucaena leucocephala or diversifolia

  • It is originated from mexico, Peru etc.
  • It is exotic legume species.
  • It grows best below 1000 meter altitude, but can be grown up to 1400 meter (diversifolia).
  • Soil having less than 5 PH value is not suitable for Ipil-Ipil.
  • It is also multipurpose species producing fodder, fuel wood and small timber, and improving soil.
  • Fodder is highly nutritive with 55-70% digestible nutrients.
  • It is propagated by seeds.
  • Rhizobium inoculation gives good growth and production.
  • For fuel wood and fodder, it is closely planted maintaining 1 x 1 row to row and plant to plant distances. In agroforestry systems, row to row distance should be 4-5 meters and plant to plant distance 1-2 meters.
  • It can be managed by lopping and pollarding.
