  • It is grown for fodder, and for other uses such as pillars, fence and baskets etc.
  • Its young shoot can be used as vegetable.
  • It is perennial grass with woody culms from rhizomes.
  • It has fibrous root system which competes with agriculture crops in an agroforestry system.
  • Traditionally propagated by vegetative methods, but seedlings can be produced by seeds.
  • Seeds have 75 -92% germination capacity.
  • The most serious pests of bamboo are larvae of shoot borer, and moths.
  • It is suitable for planting along gullies and soil erosion prone areas.
