Populus deltoids
- Two species of populus (Populus ciliate and Populus jacquenmontiana) are native to Nepal.
- It is deciduous and strongly light demanding species.
- Found naturally on alluvial soil or near stream
- Grow well in PH5-7.
- Some species are very fast growing with dense canopy.
- It can also be grown up to high mountain ( up to nearly 3000 meters in Bhairab kunda areas of Sindhu Palchok).
- Seed is very small and light, but it is propagated by cuttings.
- Cutting should be taken during dormant season, and then produce seedlings or clones.
- Planting distance is 5 x 5 meters.
- It is best suited in wheat farm because it leaves fallen down in winter or wheat growing season.
- It is used for making plywood, boxes and shelving.
- It can also used as fodder and crude protein contain is about 15% in dry matter.
- Hybrid popular plantation produced up to 40 m3/ha annually.
