Planting

  • Pit dimension : 1mx1mx1m
  • Planting distance : Dwarf 2m x 2.5m, Semi-dwarf 3m x4m, Seedling 6m x 8m, Vigorous 4m x6m

Planting of apple:

  • One year old plant during dormant season i.e. jan-feb
  • Care should be taken of planting pollinizer variety (10-15%) For example: golden delicious, red gold

 

High density planting in Apple

  • Low HDP: <250 plants/ha.
  • Medium HDP: 250-500 plants/ha.
  • High HDP: 500-1250 plants/ha.
  • Ultra HDP: > 1250-2000 plants/ha.
  • Super HDP: 2000-7000 plants/ha.

 

Nutrition and irrigation

  • Farmyard manure @ 10 kg/year with addition of other fertilizer
  • N,P,K is applied 70:35:70 g/year
  • After 10 year 700:350:700g/year
  • Foliar application of zinc, born and manganese
  • The basin should be irrigated in winter after the application of fertilizer
  • In spring the irrigation should be done before and after top dressing

 

Harvesting and yield

  • Orchard start bearing from 6 years of planting
  • On dwarfing root stock 3-4 years of planting
  • Economic life of an apple tree exceeds 30 years
  • Fruit is harvested at proper maturity
  • For distant market, picking is done for advance to full maturity
  • For home market proper ripe fruits are harvested
  • Morning or evening time is the best for apple picking
  • Yield: the average yield of 100 kg/tree
