Branches of horticulture
HORTICULTURE CONSIST OF 8 BRANCHES:
a) Pomology
- It is the branch of horticulture which deals with the scientific study of fruit production, their management and care

b) Olericulture
- It deals with scientific study of vegetables including the practices and cultural management required for successful production of vegetable crops and their seeds

c) Floriculture
- It deals with the study of flowering plants used for flower production

d) Ornamental horticulture
- It deals with the study of flowering plants, trees or both that are commercially important for landscaping and avenue plantation • Turf grasses are also included in this group

e) Plantation crops and spices
- It deals with the study of high value crops in horticulture such as tea, coffee, cocoa, cardamom, rubber, ginger and other aromatic and medicinal plants

f) Post-harvest preservation
- It deals with the practices and methods used in prolonged shelf life of flowers, fruits, vegetable spices and plantation crops in fresh, drained or processed form

g) Seed production of horticultural crops
- It deals with the techniques about production of quality seeds of horticultural crops

h) Nursery production of horticultural crops
- It deals with the techniques about production of seedling and sapling of horticultural crops
