Principle of incubation

a) Temperature:

  • Embryo start developing when temperature is > 240
  • High temperature cause mortality of embryo, smaller chicks, lack of alertness, etc.

 

b) Humidity:

  • For Ist 18 days: 55-60 % and for last 3 days: 65-75%.
  • Low humidity : Piped egg, dead embryo.
  • High humidity: Delay hatch and reduced hatchability.

 

c) Ventilation:

  • For every 1% drop of Oxygen, there is 5% drop in hatchability.
  • Requires high air circulation in 21st day of incubation. So, requires high ventilation.

 

d) Position of egg:

  • Large end up and small end down.
  • Horizontal position in case of natural behavior.

 

e) Turning of eggs:

  • Several times a day ( 4-6 times a day)
  • From 3rd day to 18 days of incubation.
  • As gentle as possible.
