Introduction to Swine/Pig farming in Nepal

• Pig belongs to the genus Sus with 16 species including warthogs and wild boars.
• They are highly sociable animal.
• Wild hogs are called ‘sounders’(Include upto 300 members) with one male and no. of sows.
• Farmed principally for meat as can convert inedible food into meat.
• Pig is multiparous animal and produce many piglets at a time.
• Improved breed of pigs were imported for the first time in Nepal in 2013 B.S.
• Maximum no. of pigs are found in eastern region of Nepal and lowest in Far western region of Nepal.
