Bhimal                        Grewia optiva

  • It can be grown from Terai to 1700 meters, exceptionally to 2200 meters.
  • It is moderate sized, deciduous and light demanding trees.
  • It shows tolerance to frost.
  • It produces high quality fodder and leaves contain 13-20% crude protein.
  • Wood used for making tool handles.
  • It is also used for fuel wood.
  • Seed collected in November to January, and can be stored for at least one year.
  • It germinates very late after seed sowing in seed beds.
  • 1 kg seed produces 1000-4000 seedlings.
  • After the seed germination, 12 months required to produce plantable size seedlings.
  • It is generally planted in terrace buds and borders in hilly areas of Nepal especially in mid-western Nepal.
