Flea beetle( Phyllotreta crucifere, Chysomelidae,Coleoptera)

Damaging stage : grub and adult ( grub : root , adult : leaves )

Symptoms of damage : adult cause pin hole damage, grub damage primary root and secondary root of crops.

Among cruciferous plant, BLM is more common than cabbage for infestation.

Identification

  • Egg : yellow, elongate – oval, either singly or in group of -4 in the soil adjacent to plant
  • Larva : thin white leglessgrub with brown
  • Pupa : soil
  • Adult : black, brown,gray, bronze,bluish and other metalic color shiny beetle ,sometimes stripped too. Overwinter in soil during winter and emerge in spring .

 

Life cycle

Egg–12 days–> grub —3-4 weeks–> Adult

 

Management

  • Predator : lacewing larva and big
  • Trap crop: BLM and
  • Sticky yellow
  • Neem oil, pyrethrin, hot
  • Mamalthian, cypermethrin @2-3 ml/l of water .
