Green leaf hopper (Nephotettix nigropictus, Nephotettix virescens , cicadilidae)

  • Rice is major host and other grass is alternate host .

 

Damaging stage:- nymph and adult

Nephotettix nigropictus (Stål)

 

 

Damaging symptoms:

  • Stunted growth and reduced
  • On tillers appearance of white patches at higher population
  • Transmits virus diseases: tungro, yellow dwarf, yellow-orange leaf, and transitory

 

  • Nephotettix nigropictus :- yellow dwarf and transitory yellowing disease
  • Nephotettix virescens :- vector of virus disease like tungro, yellow dwarf ,yellow orange leaf, leaf yellowing

 

Identification

  • Egg :- inner surface of leaf
  • Nymph :– similar to adult ,but small in size and wingless.
  • Adult :- green color ,black at distal end on each forewings

 

Management

  • Laval parasitoid like pseudognatopus
  • Predator : green mired bug , carabid beetle , lady beetle
  • Light trap, rice+soybean(intercrop),transplanting older seed .
  • Chloropyrifus 20% Ec @2ml/l
  • Buprofenin 25%Ec @ 1g/l, it’s contact
