Hadda beetle/spotted beetle (Epilachna spp, Coccinellidae, Coleoptera)
Damaging stage: grub and adult
Damaging symptoms: Both grub and adult scrap the lower epidermis of leaves, behind stripes of uneaten leaves.
Identification:
- Egg: cigar shaped, lower surface of leaves, yellow
- Grub: yellowish bearing six row of longitudinal stripes,yellowish with spine on posterior parts and anterior portion devoid of spine.
- Pupa: 6 spot/elytra (E.dodecastigma) copper 14 spot/elytra(E. vigintoctopunctata)
Life cycle:
Egg–2-4 days–> larva –10-35 days–> Pupa –5-6 days–> Adult
Management;
- Collect and destroy
- Remove solanum nigrum.
- Emulsify 1 liter of neem oil with 60gm of soap dissolved ½ liter water, diluted emulsion by adding 20 liter of water then mixed about 400gm of garlic ( well crushed)and spray.
- Malathian 50Ec 5 lor azadiractin 0.03% 2.5-5 l in 500-750 liter water.
