Legumes pod bug (Anoplocnemis curvipes ,Coreidae, Hemiptera )
Damaging stage : Nymph and Adult
Damaging symptoms :
- Necrosis ,pod malformation, empty pod
- Premature drying ,sheiveling of seed, loss of germination
Identification
Egg: brown color, laying singly or cluster in upper surface of leaf .
Nymph: mimic ant, hiding from ant .
Adult : dark colored , stout bodies ,leaf footed bug.
Management
- Collect and destroy
- Resistance varieties, early planting
- Intercropping with sorghum or green gram is reported to reduce popn
- Intercropping with maize which is commonly practice is small holder farmer is said to cause increasing in pod sucking bug and therefore is not recommended.
- Predator :assasian bug , prayig mantids, spider
- Apply phosphorus (30kg/ha)which reduce the pod sucking
- Pyrethrin based insecticide .
- Commercial neem
