Mango melay bug (Drosicha mangiferae , Margarodidae , Hemiptera)

Damaging stage :- Nymph and Adult

Damaging symptom:- Sap sucking , sooty mold.

Identification:-

  • Egg:- laying inside soil, root zone
  • Nymph:- Smaller than adult
  • Adult:- After mating male dies ,Male :- Wings ,Female :- wingless, Flat in shape covered with white cottony like substance.

 

Mango mealy bug (Drosicha mangiferae) is a major destructive pest of mango  crop in India: Plant pest

Management :-

  • Ploughing /hoeing to expose the egg ,buming the egg and physical distruction are more effective than traditional chemical control .
  • Sticky bond , gunny bad stripes , 1 cm above ground at baisakh-jestha
  • Gunny bag stripes helps to encourage the predator sumnius
  • Trunk of tree is plaster with mixture of mud and wet Fresh FYM (1:1 ratio ) to prevent crawling of immature .
  • Bonding tree with the helps of plastic sheet with grease at 10 cm above ground .
  • Tolidol@ 2 ml, metasystox @0.4% stem girth injected 1 meter aboveground inn drilled hole were superior in control over spray.
  • Predator :- Menochilus sexmaculotus ,Rodolia fumida ,Cryptomlaemus montrozieri
