Mango stem boror (Bactrocera rufomaculata , cermbycidae, coleoptera)

  • Mango, jackfruit, Apple ,
  • Polyphagous

Damaging stage:- Grub(inside stem parts) Adult (twing and petiole)

Damaging symptom :- Zigzag burrowing beneath the bark and tunnel into the trunk of main stem, moving upward and feed internal tissue , Grub reaching to tap wood . Infested stem die.

 

Identification :-

  • Egg:- Brownish white egg , on barks or in crevices in the trunk ( egg laying time :- July –august )
  • Larva :- yellowish white .
  • Pupa :- inside the trunk .
  • Adult :-
    • long antennae ,reaching to at least end of the body .
    • Dirty yellowish spot on elytra .
    • Head is arge , prominent eye , protonum with two crescent orange yellow spot

 

Life cycle

Egg—1-2 week—> Grub—3-6 months—> Pupa —4-6 months–> Adult

 

Management :-

  • loose bark and dry braches from tree
  • insert long wire into the hole on the tree to kill the larva and pupa inside .
  • Inject 5 ml kerosene or petrol with cotton into hole and close the hole with mud .
  • Imidaclopride 8% sl @ 1ml/L of water, thiomethoxame 25% WG @ 1g/L of water for 5 time starting from 2nd week of asar (july ) at 15 day interval.
